Traditional Moroccan rectangular mirror, handmade from wood using the traditional marquetry technique with bone inlays. The marquetry technique is an ancient art form that requires skill and time to master. Each artisan can take several weeks to create these pieces, using animal bone that is shaped by cutting, crushing, and sawing each piece by hand to fit a specific design. Colored resin is then applied with a trowel over the entire surface. The resin and bone are sanded smooth and then polished for a final finish. This process, combined with the natural materials, gives each piece a distinctive character.
