Bowl coated in wheat straw

Bowl decorated with a checkered design using the traditional wheat straw veneer technique. This technique is unique to the ancestral communities of San Juan de Pasto, the capital of the Nariño department in Colombia, and is one of the oldest and most distinctive artisanal techniques in the region. It involves creating strands and/or molds from wheat fibers that have been flattened and dyed with natural dyes. These strands are then adhered to wooden bases, such as bowls, vases, chests, or any other wooden product, creating designs rich in color, culture, and tradition.
