The “Always Together” couple, their name derived from the Javanese words “Loro Blonyo,” meaning “two together” or “always together,” are sculptures traditionally given as wedding gifts, representing union, fertility, and happiness for the newlyweds. These sculptures, considered sacred, were then placed in the main room of their home to ensure their wishes came true. These sculptures originate from the island of Java in Indonesia, carved from a single piece of wood and hand-painted in the mid-20th century.
